Plain English where possible. By using ShelfLife you agree to these terms.
1. The service
ShelfLife is a mobile app that tracks groceries and estimates how long they will last. It is provided by Andrew Turth as an independent developer.
2. Food safety disclaimer — read this one
ShelfLife gives estimates, not guarantees. Shelf-life predictions are based on general food-storage data and AI inference. They cannot account for your fridge temperature, how long the item sat in the car, how it was handled before you bought it, or whether the packaging was compromised.
Always use your own judgement. Look at it, smell it, and when in doubt, throw it out. ShelfLife is not a food-safety authority and we accept no liability for illness or loss arising from a food decision you made using the app. For authoritative guidance see FoodSafety.gov.
3. Accounts
You need to be 13 or older. Keep your login details to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account. If you create a household, everyone you invite can see and edit the shared inventory.
4. Subscriptions and billing
- ShelfLife Pro is $6.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
- New installs get a 3-day free trial of Pro. No card is required to start it.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in your Apple or Google account settings; access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies. If you have a problem they will not fix, email us and we will try to help.
- If we raise the price, existing subscribers keep their rate for at least 12 months and get 30 days notice.
5. The free plan
The free plan is free, permanently, with the limits listed on the pricing page. We may adjust those limits with notice, but we will not remove data export from the free plan. Ever.
6. Acceptable use
Do not reverse engineer the app, hammer our APIs, resell access, or upload anything illegal. We can suspend accounts that do.
7. Your content
Your inventory is yours. You grant us only the licence needed to run the service (store it, sync it, show it back to you). We claim no ownership.
8. If we shut down
If ShelfLife is discontinued, we will give at least 60 days notice by email, stop all billing immediately, refund any unused annual time on a pro-rata basis, and keep export working for the whole notice period. We will also publish the export schema so another app can import it.
9. Availability
The app works offline by design, but sync, AI estimates and receipt scanning need a connection and third-party services. We do not promise uptime and we are not liable for interruptions.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability to you is capped at what you paid us in the previous 12 months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
11. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; material changes get 30 days notice by email. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state of the operator's residence.
